How do you choose a Web Hosting Company?

Go ahead, ‘Google’  Web Hosting Company on your computer right now.  Do you see numerous companies listed?  How do you choose?  Whether your website is for personal or professional use, there are a few key things you need to take into account before you pick a host.  If the site is going to be utilized for a SMB or Enterprise business you may need to think about server hosting instead.

Here are a few tips on what to consider when choosing a web hosting provider:web

  •         Do you want a domain name
  •         Email accounts
  •         Storage and transfer storage
  •         Payment features
  •         Auto-responder for email communication
  •         24/7 support
  •         SPAM filtering and Virus Scanning
  •         Backups

Create a list of things that you absolutely need.  Most companies can customize to your needs.  Match up your list to potential hosting sites then choose a good website hosting company that can customize to your needs and has support for you.  Don’t let yourself just be another number to that company.

Papa’s Pumpkin Patch

During this year’s United Way “Day of Caring”, employees from Basin Electric, Mor-Gran-Sou, Capital Electric and NDREC were able to help out Papa’s Pumpkin Patch.   The Pumpkin Patch was damaged in the catastrophic 2011 Missouri River flood.  One of the projects that was made and finished that day was the Touchstone Trail at Papa’s Pumpkin Patch.  Click here to read more about this on Basin Electric’s Blog.

This year one of our employees twin daughters 1st Grade class at Miller Elementary were able to take a field trip this year out to Papa’s Pumpkin Patch and have the opportunity to get a photo with the Touchstone Energy logo.

BTInet Email on Outlook 2010

Outlook 2010 can be setup with IMAP using ( or POP using (

  •       The incoming IMAP server is using port 143
  •       The incoming POP server is using port 110
  •       The outgoing server SMTP is using port 587

To edit these settings Start Outlook 2010 and select File from the ribbon (upper left), select Info from the side panel, then select Account settings. This will open up a dialogue box similar to the one pictured below.

Select your BTInet account (usually has Default in the Type field) and select change. This will bring you to another dialogue box similar to the one below.

Your name

Enter your name as you wish it to appear in emails you send. Typically your name or the use of the email address
E-mail Address This is the Email address that BTInet has provided you.
Incoming Mail Server Enter if the account type is POP or if the account type is IMAP
Outgoing Mail Server Enter
Username This is your email address again
Password This is the email password
Remember Password

Check this box if you want Outlook to remember your password.

Once you have confirmed these settings we need to configure the option More Settings. Under More Settings, under Outgoing Server, make sure the “My outgoing server requires authentication” is checked and that “use same settings as my incoming mail server is selected”.

Under the Advanced Tab we want to make sure that the Outgoing Server number is 587 and that the option “This server requires an encrypted connection” is either TLS or SSL (In the rare case that one of these encryptions types does not work please try using them with port 465).

From here we can click OK and select Finish.
