2013 Sharing Tree


The Sharing Tree program helps our community fill the local holiday wishes of those in need.  The Sharing Tree strives to ensure that every person feels the touch of our caring community this holiday season and throughout the year.

This year Basin Electric recieved 60 names of underprivileged children which we can help have a wonderful holiday.  To try something different this year, we are trying Earth-friendly seed paper ornaments. We hope you find these personal and inspiring to go green.

Papa’s Pumpkin Patch

During this year’s United Way “Day of Caring”, employees from Basin Electric, Mor-Gran-Sou, Capital Electric and NDREC were able to help out Papa’s Pumpkin Patch.   The Pumpkin Patch was damaged in the catastrophic 2011 Missouri River flood.  One of the projects that was made and finished that day was the Touchstone Trail at Papa’s Pumpkin Patch.  Click here to read more about this on Basin Electric’s Blog.

This year one of our employees twin daughters 1st Grade class at Miller Elementary were able to take a field trip this year out to Papa’s Pumpkin Patch and have the opportunity to get a photo with the Touchstone Energy logo.

Why BTInet?

Since 1995, BTInet has been providing quality Internet and Hosting services around the region and around the world. We’ve designed and developed a rock-solid infrastructure with performance and reliability in mind, including owning our own data center facility, utilizing redundant network connectivity, and implementing the monitoring and security measures necessary to ensure reliability and performance.  Our people are talented industry experts that still believe in the importance of personalized customer care.

Our Company

BTInet is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Basin Electric Power Cooperative, a progressive, financially stable electric generation and transmission (G&T) cooperative located safely in the Midwest.

Our Data Center

Owning our data centers rather than leasing space in other companies data centers gives us total control over all aspects of their operation.  Our primary data center is located in our headquarters building in Bismarck, ND with a secondary data center located in Beulah, ND.  Being located in the Midwest, our data centers are unaffected by the variety of natural disasters (flooding, hurricanes, earthquakes, etc.) that affect other data centers.   We have private fiber connectivity between our data centers so we don’t have to rely on external carriers to replicate data between data centers.

Completed in 2010, our primary data center has been designed to avoid any single point of failure.  All carriers are connected via multiple fiber optic rings, which enter the data center at diverse entry points and provide total communications redundancy. Multiple core routers, firewalls and switches have redundant components and network interfaces.  Our power system is designed with redundancy from the equipment to the street.  Equipment with redundant power supplies are fed by separate circuits, which are connected to separate PDUs, that are fed by separate UPSes that are fed from separate transformers.  In the unlikely event of complete power loss to the building, all equipment would instantaneously fail over to our UPS system until our backup diesel generators begin providing power indefinitely.  BTInet’s redundant HVAC system is also supported by the backup power system, ensuring that the data center temperature and climate are always appropriately maintained, even in the event of a power failure.

Our data center is monitored 24 hours-a-day, and is card key controlled to allow access only to authorized personnel.  After regular business hours, access to the floor and wing of the building where the data center resides is also restricted to authorized personnel.  All entries/exits are logged in our internal security department, and BTInet security staff regularly patrol the data center during non-business hours.

Network and system security is provided using a combination of multiple firewalls, access control lists, network based intrusion detection software, encryption, port wrapping and the disabling of unused network services.  We perform periodic, unscheduled security audits using third-party security firms to identify any potential problems before they can affect our network.  Our staff regularly attends security training and security conferences to stay ahead of the latest vulnerabilities.

Equipment and network connectivity are monitored 24 hours-a-day by our security department using various monitoring software.  In the event of a failure in hardware or connectivity, resolution of the issue will begin within minutes.

A huge thank you goes out to Basin Electric, for contributing $500.00 to our team, a free will luncheon, and donating t-shirts for our team.  We appreciate it all!!

In 2011 our team raised over $3500 and we were awarded the “Top Corporate Team”.

Brave the Shave!


For the fifth year in a row, Basin Electric is proud to host its annual St. Baldricks fundraising event.  Each year, 160,000 children are diagnosed with cancer worldwide. Cancer is the number one disease killer of children in the U.S. and Canada. Research saves lives.

The event will take place at Bismarck State College’s Armory on March 16th starting at 1:30pm.  This year’s event is cosponsored by MDU Resource Group, National Information Solutions Cooperative (NISC) and Basin Electric.

This particular event started in North Dakota in 2008 with nearly 700 volunteers shaving their heads in honor of those children with cancer.  Since then the Bismarck-Mandan area has raised more than $500,000 for childhood cancer research and fellowships.

HOSTING CUSTOMERS:  24/7 support will be available through the Preferred Accounts line during the holidays for all existing Hosting customers.


2011 was an exciting year for BTInet.  As always we focused on our reliable hosting services, along with helpful, technically superior customer service.  We are looking forward to the opportunities coming in the 2012 New Year.

This past year was a crazy year for employees working to save their homes or helping others save theirs from the Missouri River flooding.  Despite the outcome of the flooding, we are happy that everyone stayed safe and our employees and community came together in the time of need.
